General description

Anti-C/EBP-β Antibody detects endogenous levels of total C/EBP-β protein.
CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein-β (C/EBP-β) is encoded by the gene mapped to human chromosome 20q13.13. The encoded protein belongs to the C/EBP family. C/EBP-β is a leucine-zipper transcription factor and is highly expressed during the early stages of adipocyte development. Alternative splicing of C/EBP-β leads to the formation of three isoforms such as, C/EBPβ-1 with 346 amino acids, C/EBPβ-2 with 323 amino acid and C/EBPβ with 146 amino acids.

Immunogen

The antiserum was produced against synthesized peptide derived from human C/EBP-beta.

Immunogen Range: 201-250

Biochem/physiol Actions

CCAAT/enhancer-binding proteins (C/EBPs) regulate expression of various cytokines and chemokines such as, interleukin-6 (IL-6), IL-8 and monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1). C/EBP-β plays a vital role in the regulation of gluconeogenesis and adipogenesis gene expression. The encoded protein also modulates the gene expression of human immunodeficiency virus-1 (HIV-1) and other retroviruses (human T-cell leukemia virus type (HTLV-) and simian immunodeficiency viruses (SIV)). This is carried out by regulating various process, like C-C chemokine receptor type 5 (CCR5) expression, virus promoter activities, cytokine and chemokine production and virus protein function. C/EBPβ is involved in various cellular processes such as metabolism, development and differentiation. Overexpression of C/EBP-β mRNA has been observed in various types of cancers.
