General description

Calcium oxide (CaO) is an alkaline earth metal oxide that has many industrial applications. Calcium oxide receives great attention in catalysis because it is affordable, environmentally friendly, and characterized by a strong basic nature, abundantly available, low methanol solubility and non-toxic compound.

Application

Calcium oxide is used:
  • As a catalyst during the transesterification of palm oil to produce biodiesel.
  • In the inactivation of Cryptosporidium spp. oocysts and Giardia spp. Cysts from WTS (water treatment sludge).
  • In combination with PAA (peracetic acid) to increases the biogas production potential of cow manure and maize straw.
