Abamectin is an insecticide, acaricide, and nematicide that belongs to the avermectins group of chemical compounds. Abamectin is a mixture two homologues containing >80% avermectin B1a and <20% avermectin B1b. It is used for the protection of ornamentals, cotton, citrus, pome fruit, nuts, vegetables, potatoes, and other crops against mites, leaf miners, suckers, colorado beetles, etc. It is commonly found in veterinary drugs due to its broad spectrum anti-parasitic activity.

Application

It is intended to be used as a certified reference material (CRM) for calibration in chromatography and other analytical techniques.
The abamectin (CRM) can also be used to:
  • Study the toxicity of abamectin towards bacteria, algae, daphnids, and fishes
  • Examine the sorption and dissipation of abamectin in different soils
  • Determine abamectin and azadirachtin residues in orange samples using LC-ESI-MS
  • Develop a method to measure the amount of abamectin in citrus fruits
  • Determine abamectin in citrus fruits with SPE coupled with dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction and HPLC-UV detection
  • Measure abamectin and two other acaricide residues in green beans by extraction using QuEChERS method and further analysis by HPLC
