Application

Dimethyl sulfone (DMSO2) can undergo:
  • Acylation with N-acylbenzotriazoles to synthesize β-keto sulfones.
  • α-Monoarylation via palladium-catalyzed Negishi coupling reaction to synthesize benzylic sulfones.
  • One-step olefination of alcohols in the presence of ruthenium pincer complex as a catalyst.

DMSO2 can also be used as an electrolyte over a wide range of temperatures (110–150°C) for electrodeposition of aluminum.
