Cell Line Origin

Human adenocarcinoma

Cell Line Description

Derived from a human adenocarcinoma from lung tissue which remains undifferentiated.

PC-14 was originally deposited with the Riken BioResource Center as a cell line derived from human lung adenocarcinoma (undifferentiated type) in 1989. The RIKEN BioResource Center subsequently informed the European Collection of Cell Cultures (ECACC) that short tandem repeat (STR) DNA profile analysis, undertaken in collaboration Immuno-Biological Laboratories Co., Ltd Japan, has shown this cell line to be identical to PC-9 a cell line derived from human lung adenocarcinoma (differentiated type). The misidentification occurred prior to the cell line being deposited at the RIKEN BioResource Center. The name of the cell line has been changed to PC-9 to reflect this finding.

Application

PC-9 cell line has been used to study the effects of α-tocopherol addition on various cytotoxic drugs.[1]

Questions

1–2 of 2 Questions
  1. You seem to be selling 5ug of DNA from those cells. Please confirm that cells will be viable and can be used for cell culture. I assume 5ug of DNA is just the equivalent amount to the number of cells you are shipping? Thank you!

    1 answer
    1. Product 90071810 includes two types of items. The DNA-5UG is 5 micrograms of purified DNA from this cell line. The -1VL is the cryopreserved cell line. Each vial contains 2-4 x 10,000 vialble cells that are ready for culture upon thaw.

  2. What is the size of these cells?

    1 answer
    1. This is a product of the ECACC. The supplier does not report a size range for this cell line, but provides representative images that may be observed below.
