Application

Plasminogen Activator Substrate has been used as a fluorogenic thrombin substrate to measure the fluorescence released by cleavage of the thrombin substrate to assess the functional activity of the mannose-binding lectin–mannose-associated serine protease (MBL-MASP) complex.
Plasminogen Activator is a serine protease that coverts plasminogen into plasmin. Plasminogen activator may be detected using VGR peptide substrates such a BOC-VGR-βNA and Boc-Val-Gly-Arg-AMC (VGR).

Biochem/physiol Actions

Plasminogen activator (PA) is used to cure life-threatening coronary and cerebrovascular blockages. The important role of the PA system is to convert the inactive plasminogen to plasmin. However, it also plays a vital role in embryogenesis, cell migration, wound healing, inflammatory response, and apoptotic cell death. The PA system is also involved in tumor growth, angiogenesis, tumor cell invasion, migration, and metastasis in cancer patients.

Mannose-binding lectin, together with mannose-associated serine proteases, activates the lectin pathway of the complement system and subsequent inflammatory mechanisms. An association between mannose-binding lectin deficiency and anti-Saccharomyces cerevisiae antibody levels is observed in Crohn's disease and this deficiency is frequently
