General description

Choline chloride is a quaternary ammonium salt and associates with hydrogen bond donors (HBD). It is essential for the vital physiological functions and is used as a nutritional additive. Choline is a source of methyl groups for methyl-transfer reactions.
Choline acetyltransferase substrate

Application

Choline chloride has been used:
  • as a component of choline acetyltransferase (ChAT) buffer and for choline uptake in cultured human neuroblastoma (SK-N-SH) cells
  • for choline standard curve generation for quantifying phospholipase D (PLD) activity
  • as a component of slice solution for the dissection of entorhinal-hippocampal brain slices

Questions

1–3 of 3 Questions
  1. Choline chloride will be melted in water for addition to the medium. Can you please tell me the proper storage method, such as -30°C freezing ay -4°C refrigeration?

    1 answer
    1. This product is soluble in water at 50 mg/mL. The storage and stability conditions for this product upon reconstitution have not been determined.

      Helpful?

  2. Hi, is it possible to thaw choline chloride in PBS instead of water and add it to the medium?

    1 answer
    1. This product is soluble in water, tested at 50 mg/mL. Solubility in PBS has not been determined in-house. Literature suggests that choline chloride can be prepared with PBS.
