This product is prepared by the method of Nisizawa K. and Pigman W., 1959, Arch. Oral Biol. 1, 161-70, "The composition and properties of the Mucin Clot from Cattle Sub-maxillary glands". Briefly, the bovine submaxillary glands are blended in a phosphate buffer; following filtration, the material is centrifuged, and the precipitated material is resuspended and is dialyzed before lyophilization. It should contain about 74% protein, 12.8% sialic acid, 8.1% galactosamine, and 3.4% glucosamine.
