General description

Ring finger protein 135 (RNF135) gene is mapped to chromosome 17q11.2 within the NF1 (neurofibromin 1) gene locus. It codes for a ring finger domain-containing E3 ubiquitin ligase expressed in the cortex and cerebellum.[1] RNF 135, also known as riplet, contains RING domain in its N-terminal and C-terminal SPRY (SPla and the Ryanodine) and PRY motifs.

Application

Biochem/physiol Actions

Ring finger protein 135 (RNF135) ubiquitinates RIG-I (retinoic acid-inducible gene 1) and activates its signal transduction pathway that stimulates human innate immunity against RNA virus infection. Mutation in RNF135 gene, within the NF1 (neurofibromin 1) microdeletion region, leads to overgrowth, learning disability, malformed appearance and other phenotypic abnormalities. This protein acts as a bio-marker and therapy target of glioblastoma.[1]
