Gene Information

human ... FTCD(10841)

General description

Formimidoyltransferase cyclodeaminase (FTCD) is localized to the membrane of the Golgi apparatus and the gene encoding it is located on human chromosome 21q22.3.

Immunogen

Formimidoyltransferase-cyclodeaminase recombinant protein epitope signature tag (PrEST)

Application

All Prestige Antibodies Powered by Atlas Antibodies are developed and validated by the Human Protein Atlas (HPA) project and as a result, are supported by the most extensive characterization in the industry.

The Human Protein Atlas project can be subdivided into three efforts: Human Tissue Atlas, Cancer Atlas, and Human Cell Atlas. The antibodies that have been generated in support of the Tissue and Cancer Atlas projects have been tested by immunohistochemistry against hundreds of normal and disease tissues and through the recent efforts of the Human Cell Atlas project, many have been characterized by immunofluorescence to map the human proteome not only at the tissue level but now at the subcellular level. These images and the collection of this vast data set can be viewed on the Human Protein Atlas (HPA) site by clicking on the Image Gallery link. We also provide Prestige Antibodies® protocols and other useful information.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Formimidoyltransferase cyclodeaminase (FTCD) plays an important role in linking the catabolism of histidine to the metabolism of folate. Defects in this enzyme lead to glutamate formiminotransferase deficiency.

Features and Benefits

Prestige Antibodies® are highly characterized and extensively validated antibodies with the added benefit of all available characterization data for each target being accessible via the Human Protein Atlas portal linked just below the product name at the top of this page. The uniqueness and low cross-reactivity of the Prestige Antibodies® to other proteins are due to a thorough selection of antigen regions, affinity purification, and stringent selection. Prestige antigen controls are available for every corresponding Prestige Antibody and can be found in the linkage section.

Every Prestige Antibody is tested in the following ways:
  • IHC tissue array of 44 normal human tissues and 20 of the most common cancer type tissues.
  • Protein array of 364 human recombinant protein fragments.

Cytogenetics and cell genetics, 88(1-2), 43-49 (2000-04-25)
We have identified a new human gene, FTCD, which maps to chromosome 21q22.3 and encodes the enzyme formiminotransferase cyclodeaminase, an intermediate metabolism enzyme that links histidine catabolism to folate metabolism. The major cDNA encodes a protein containing 541 amino acid

Human mutation, 22(1), 67-73 (2003-06-20)
Glutamate formiminotransferase deficiency, an autosomal recessive disorder and the second most common inborn error of folate metabolism, is presumed to be due to defects in the bifunctional enzyme glutamate formiminotransferase-cyclodeaminase (FTCD). Features of a severe phenotype, first identified in patients

Membrane trafficking is a defining feature of eukaryotic cells, and is essential for the maintenance of organelle homeostasis and identity. We previously identified Scy1-like 1 (Scyl1), a member of the Scy1-like family of catalytically inactive protein kinases, as a high-affinity
