Application

PDADMAC can be used as an electrolytic solution in combination with mesoporous silica to form a responsive carrier system for potential usage in drug delivery.[1] It can be also be coated on gold nanorods to enhance the cellular uptake in biomedical systems.[2] It is used in the surface modification of indium tin oxide (ITO) substrate which may be used in chemical sensors or biosensor based applications.[3]

General description

Poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) solution (PDADMAC) is a cationic polyelectrolyte that is widely utilized as a flocculant. It is prepared by the radical polymerization of diallyldimethylammonium chloride (DADMAC) in presence of a catalyst in the form of an organic peroxide.[4][5][6]

We present an article that discusses two applications in particular; first, using these layers as polyelectrolyte membranes to control permeability.

Questions

1–6 of 6 Questions
  1. How much PDADMAC is generally added to a cell suspension or where can i find further information on that?

    1 answer
    1. The typical concentration of PDADMAC (poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride)) added to a cell suspension can vary based on specific applications and conditions. However, general guidelines suggest the following:

For flocculation processes, PDADMAC is often used at concentrations between 0.01% to 0.05% (100 to 500 ppm).

Consulting relevant literature is recommended for specific guidance.

  2. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1 answer
    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

  3. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1 answer
    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers. For more information, please refer to the Storage and Transport Conditions document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/316/622/storage-transport-conditions-mk.pdf

  4. What is the actual concentration of PDADMAC in the 20%w/w in H2O solution (product: 409014)?

    1 answer
    1. The exact concentration will be listed on the lot specific Certificate of Analysis located in the DOCUMENTATION section of the Product Detail Page. To access a Certificate, please access the link below:

  5. What is the expiration date of PDAAC?

    1 answer
    1. This product is not assigned an expiration date or recommended retest date. Products with no expiration date or recommended retest date should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected. These products are also subject to a one year warranty from the date of shipment. For more information you may access the "Product Dating Information" document under "ADDITIONAL USEFUL DOCUMENTS ABOUT OUR PRODUCTS" at the bottom of the Quality Services page with this link: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/life-science/quality-and-regulatory-management/quality-services.
