General description

Interleukin 21 (IL-21) is a cytokine that has immunoregulatory activity on cells of the immune system, including natural killer (NK) cells and cytotoxic T cells that can destroy virally infected or cancerous cells. IL-21 induces cell division/proliferation in its target cells and is expressed in activated human CD4+ T cells. IL-21 may promote the transition between innate and adaptive immunity and may play a role in proliferation and maturation of natural killer (NK) cells in synergy with IL15. IL-21 expression is up-regulated in Th2 and Th17 subsets of T helper cells, as well as follicular T cells. Furthermore IL-21 is expressed in NK T cells regulating the function of these cells. IL-21 is also produced by Hodgkin′s lymphoma (HL) cancer cells and may explain a great deal of the behavior of classical Hodgkin′s lymphoma including clusters of other immune cells gathered around HL cells in cultures.

Specificity

Cow, canine, equine, and porcine (93% sequence homology). Rat (86% sequence homology).
This antibody recognizes the C-terminus of IL-21.

Immunogen

Epitope: C-terminus
KLH-conjugated linear peptide corresponding to the C-terminus of human IL-21.

Application

Anti-Interleukin 21 (IL-21) Antibody is an antibody against Interleukin 21 (IL-21) for use in FC, IH(P) & WB.
Flow Cytometry Analysis: 5 µg from a previous lot detected IL-21 in human PBMC′s.

Immunohistochemistry Analysis: A 1:100 dilution from a previous lot detected IL-21 in mouse spleen tissue.

Quality

Evaluated by Western Blot in K562 cell lysate.

Western Blot Analysis: 1 µg/mL of this antibody detected IL-21 on 10 µg of K562 cell lysate.

Target description

A molecular weight of 18 kDa was observed; however, UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot entry Q9HBE4 (IL21_HUMAN) describes 2 isoforms produced by alternative splicing: isoform 1 at 18 kDa, isoform 2 at 17 kDa
