General description

Sarcalumenin (SAR) is a Ca2+ binding protein. It is present in the longitudinal sarcoplasmic reticulum. It is expressed in the striated muscle cells.

Immunogen

purified rabbit sarcoplasmic reticulum membrane vesicles.

Biochem/physiol Actions

In mice, deletion of sarcalumenin increases resistance to fatigue and altered calcium handling properties. It is required in the maintenance of cardiac activities throughout endurance exercise training. It modulates the reuptake of Ca2+ into the sarcoplasmic reticulum. It also plays an important role in age-related cardiac malfunction.

Physical form

Solution in phosphate buffered saline containing 0.05% sodium azide
