General description

We are committed to bringing you Greener Alternative Products that adhere to one of the four categories of Greener Alternatives. This is an enabling product that can be used to synthesize 2D materials, optimizing them for catalytic activity in applications such as water splitting. This enhances performance and contributes to sustainable energy solutions. Click here for more information.
Hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) has a layered structure similar to graphite and can be exfoliated as singlelayered BN sheets. hBN has applications in catalysts, optoelectronics and semiconductor devices. Boron nitride posseses high thermal conductivity of approximately 400W/mK at 300K.

Application

Hexagonal boron nitride powder has been used:
  • In the fabrication and luminescence study of monolayered boron nitride quantum dots.[1]
  • Rare earth boron complexes.
  • Boron nitride filled polybenzoxazine system as a thermally conducting molding components for electronic packaging applications.
  • Boron containing ceramic products.
  • As a starting material to form BN nanotubes.
  • To load silicone rubber and its consecutive effect on its thermal, mechanical and morphological properties was studied.

Questions

1–4 of 4 Questions
  1. The product says 98%. Does that mean 98% pure Boron Nitride? If so, what is the other 2%? The COA only mentions the percent of boron, and only at a maximum percentage of 44.6%. Does the 98% mean you expect 53.4% nitrogen?

    1 answer
    1. The impurities are not determined for this product. However, historically Boron Trioxide (B2O3) and trace amounts of carbon and calcium have been identified. The moisture content of this material is not determined. While the nitrogen content is not determined, based on the formulation, at the minimum purity, 53.4% would be expected.

  2. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1 answer
    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

  3. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1 answer
    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers. For more information, please refer to the Storage and Transport Conditions document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/316/622/storage-transport-conditions-mk.pdf

  4. what does "1um" mean? thikness? or the powder size?

    1 answer
    1. 1 micron is the powder size, not specific to thickness.
