Application

Hydrogen peroxide has been used for immunocytochemistry for eNOS. It has also been used for developing colour during detection of anti-prothrombin and anti-beta2-glycoprotein I antibodies. Additionally, it has also been used as a supplement in Hanks buffered saline solution for assessing the functional activity of myeloperoxidase.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is a strong oxidizer that can induce neuronal death in cultured cortical neurons via an apoptotic pathway. Oxidative burst facilitated by hydrogen peroxide is a key mechanism of plant defense during an incompatible interaction. Hydrogen peroxide injected in transgenic rice induces cell death as well as increase resistance to both bacterial and fungal pathogens.
