Read more about

Metabolic syndrome involves a combination of serious health issues such as diabetes and obesity. Multiplex immunoassays are critical in this research because they provide a full picture of the different conditions related to metabolic syndrome as well as save the researcher valuable time and sample volume.

What is Metabolic Syndrome?

Metabolic syndrome is a state of low-grade inflammation that contributes to a combination of conditions that impact metabolism and hormones. Obesity, diabetes, and associated conditions, under the umbrella of metabolic syndrome, are urgent health issues. Key features of the metabolic syndrome include:

  • Insulin resistance
  • Glucose intolerance
  • Hypertension
  • Dyslipidemia
  • Central obesity
  • Neuropathy

These symptoms are risk factors for atherosclerosis, coronary heart disease, type 2 diabetes, kidney disease, and even premature death. Adults with metabolic syndrome show inflammation, which may be linked to metabolism via dysregulated adipocyte production of pro- and anti-inflammatory factors.

Biomarkers for Metabolic Syndrome

Biomarkers for metabolic syndrome include cytokines, acute phase proteins, diabetes, and obesity-related hormones, as well as endocrine biomarkers. The expanding portfolio of MILLIPLEX® multiplex metabolic assays helps detect endocrine biomarkers, hormones, insulin-like growth factors, and binding proteins, myokines, bone metabolism biomarkers, and more, to advance your metabolic syndrome research.

Multiplexing Metabolic Syndrome Biomarkers

Multiplexing metabolic syndrome biomarkers allow researchers to gain a complete picture of the various conditions associated with metabolic syndrome. The following graphs in Figure 1 show data for selected analytes of human plasma/serum samples assayed using the MILLIPLEX® Human Metabolic Hormone Panel V3.
