General description

Acyl-CoA:lysophosphatidylglycerol acyltransferase 1 (LPGAT1) is a lysophosphatidylglycerol (LPG)-specific acyltransferase which is localized to the endoplasmic reticulum. It belongs to the lyosphosphatidic acid acyltransferase family.

Application

Biochem/physiol Actions

Acyl-CoA:lysophosphatidylglycerol acyltransferase 1 (LPGAT1) recognizes a variety of acyl-CoAs and lysophosphatidylglycerols (LPGs) as substrates and transfers the acyl moiety. It shows a preference for long chain saturated fatty acyl-CoAs and oleoyl-CoAs as acyl donors. LPGAT1 prefers oleoyl-LPG as an acyl receptor over palmitoyl-LPG and oleoyl-CoA over lauroyl-CoA as an acyl donor. Reacylating LPG back to phosphatidylglycerol is also taken care by LPGAT1.
