General description

Penicillin streptomycin, also known as Pen-Strep, is the most commonly used antibiotic solution for culture of mammalian cells. Penicillin Streptomycin solution is used to maintain sterile conditions during cell culture, and they show few adverse effects on the cultured cells.[1][2]

Application

Penicillin-Streptomycin solution is used to supplement cell culture media to control bacterial contamination.[3][4][5] It has also been used for the preparation of lipid emulsions.[6] It is recommended for use in cell culture applications at 10 mL/L.

This product is formulated to contain 10,000 units penicillin and 10 mg streptomycin/mL.

  1. Hello, Does the Pen Strep (P0781) contain any calcium in its formulation? Thank you!

    1. This product is not tested for the presence of calcium. However, the solution contains Streptomycin sulfate and Penicillin G sodium in 0.9% Sodium chloride. No calcium-containing components are used in the preparation of this material.

  2. What is the storage temperature and the stability of the Penicillin-Streptomycin solution?

    1. This product is stored at -20°C and is assigned an expiration date of approximately 3 years from the date of Quality Release. Upon thawing, the solution may be aliquoted and refrozen one time for long term storage, up to the lot specific expiration date. The thawed solution is stable for up to 1 week if stored refrigerated and up to 3 days in culture medium at 37°C
