General description

Phosphatidylethanolamine is an aminophospholipid, which is found in eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells. It is one of the most abundant glycerophospholipids in the biological membranes. Phosphatidylethanolamine is found in nervous tissue.

Application

10:0 PE has been used for the synthesis of fluorescent phospholipid derivative NBD-didecanoylphosphatidylethanolamine (NBD-diC10PE).

Biochem/physiol Actions

Phosphatidylethanolamine forms pure lipid structures. It maintains membrane fluidity in eukaryotic cells. Phosphatidylethanolamine plays a critical role in autophagy, cell division and protein folding. It acts as a precursor for the synthesis of various protein modifications. Phosphatidylethanolamine functions as an intermediate for the synthesis of glycerophospholipid classes.
