Target description

Nuclear receptor coactivator 2 (UniProt: Q15596; also known as NCoA-2, Transcriptional intermediary factor 2, hTIF2, Class E basic helix-loop-helix protein 75 (bHLHe75)) is encoded by the NCOA2 (also known as BHLHE75, SRC2, TIF2) gene (Gene ID: 10499) in human. Nuclear receptor coactivator 2 (NCoA-2) functions as a transcriptional coactivator in various cellular processes. It belongs to the p160/steroid receptor coactivator (SRC) family of proteins. NCoA-2 plays a crucial role in the regulation of gene expression by interacting with nuclear receptors and other transcription factors. It possesses multiple functional domains, including a nuclear receptor interaction domain (NRID), a histone acetyltransferase (HAT) domain, and several transcription activation domains (ADs). NCoA-2 acts as a bridge between transcription factors and the transcriptional machinery, facilitating the recruitment of coactivators and chromatin remodeling complexes to target gene promoters. This coactivator function enables NCoA-2 to modulate diverse biological processes such as development, metabolism, cell proliferation, and differentiation. Dysregulation of NCoA-2 has been implicated in various diseases, including cancer, where it can promote tumor growth and progression.
