General description

Dimethylglyoxime (DMG) is a complexing ligand. Dimethylglyoxime forms a number of mixed ligand complexes with N-acetylglycine with metals such as VO(IV), Ni(II), Zn(II), Pd(II), Cd(II) and Pb(II). It is a useful reagent for the spectrophotometric determination of Co(II), Fe(II), Ni(II), Pd(II) and Re(VII).

Application

Dimethylglyoxime (DMG) was used as complexing agent for cobalt(II) and nickel(II) metals for the analysis of brine for trace metals by adsorptive stripping voltammetry. DMG was used in a study to develop a new DMG containing modified sol-gel carbon composite electrode for voltammetric sensing of heavy metals.

Nickel sensitization is frequent among US patients with dermatitis and in the general population. In Europe, decreasing prevalences of nickel sensitization are observed as a result of the European Union Nickel Directive. However, no directive exists in the United States.
