General description

Acrylamide (AA) is a neurotoxin and carcinogen. It was found in potato products like, french fries and potato chips and also in several cereal-based products. This highly reactive organic compound has the ability to polymerize to form polyacrylamide.

Application

Ready to reconstitute dry powder blends are accurately pre-blended to produce a 40% (w/v) stock solution for use in protein and nucleic acid electrophoresis. The concentration is based on the total weight of both the acrylamide and bis-acrylamide.
Acrylamide/Bis-acrylamide has been used in the preparation of polyacrylamide (PA) gels. It has also been used as a component in the preparation of blotting gel precursor solution, separation gel precursor solution and loading gel precursor solution.

Features and Benefits

Eliminates the need to weigh toxic acrylamide and bis-acrylamide.

Preparation Note

Reconstitute by slowly adding the indicated amount of distilled water to the container and dissolve contents.
To make up 100 ml of A2792, slowly add 63 ml distilled or deionized water to the container and dissolve contents. Do not divide the solid. This makes 100 ml of a 40% stock solution.
For the 1 Liter size, use 630 mL of water.

Questions

1–4 of 4 Questions
  1. What is the initial weight of the powder

    1 answer
    1. The initial weight of the powder is 40 g.

      Helpful?

  2. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1 answer
    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

  3. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1 answer
    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers. For more information, please refer to the Storage and Transport Conditions document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/316/622/storage-transport-conditions-mk.pdf

  4. I purchased the item A2792-100ML, however, there are no instructions on how to reconstitute this so that I have a 30% acrylamide/bis solution. Where can I find instructions?

    1 answer
    1. The instructions on how to use Product A2792 to make 100 mL of a 40 percent solution are provided on the Product Detail Page in the DESCRIPTION section under the heading of Reconstitution:

"To make up 100 ml of A2792, slowly add 63 ml distilled or deionized water to the container and dissolve contents. Do not divide the solid. This makes 100 ml of a 40% stock solution."

To use this 100 mL of the 40% solution to in turn make a 30% solution, add additional distilled or deionized water to bring the total volume to 133 mL; the total volume can be measured in a graduated cylinder. It should take roughly 30 mL of additional water, but the total volume (133 mL) needs to be measured accurately.
      .
Alternatively, it be more convenient to order the Acrylamide/Bis-acrylamide, 30% solution, BioReagent, suitable for electrophoresis, 29:1, which we list as Product A3574. Please see the link below to review this product:
