General description

Oil of turpentine is a mixture of volatile terpenic distillates of resin obtained from pines. It is generally composed of α-pinene, β-pinene, limonene and camphene. It possess antimicrobial and larvicidal properties and induces inflammation in high dosage.

Application

Oil of turpentine is primarily used as a solvent for industrial applications, such as thinner for paints and varnishes. Preparation of carbon nano-spheres (CNSs) by decomposition of turpentine oil has been reported.
