General description

2-hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin is obtained by chemical modification of cyclic oligosaccharide, β-cyclodextrins. It is used as a potential adjuvant for vaccines. 2-hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin in an aqueous buffer increases the solubility of drugs. It is non-toxic in mice and rabbits. The formation of drug/cyclodextrin complexes is a rapidly reversible reaction and complexes exist both in solution and crystalline states. Solutions of many such complexes may be lyophilized to produce freely soluble powders which may be compressed into tablets.

Application

(2-Hydroxypropyl)-β-cyclodextrin solution has been used:
  • to prepare a fresh solution of Cdc42 activity-specific inhibitor (CASIN) drug for analysis of the epigenetic aging signature in C57BL/6 mice
  • to prepare the solution of remodelin and remodelin Fluor for assessment of remodelin toxicity in vivo in mice
  • as a constituent of sodium citrate solution for reconstitution of carfilzomib (PR-171)
