Application

This antibiotic solution is used to reduce or eliminate bacterial contamination in primary cell cultures. It is recommended for us at 10 mL/L.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Mode of Action: The product acts in three ways: Glutamine is an essential energy source for most mammalian cells in culture due to its amino acid carbon skeleton. Penicillin inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis. Streptomycin inhibits prokaryote protein synthesis by preventing the transition from initiation complex to chain-elongating ribosome, causing miscoding.

Antimicrobial spectrum: This product acts against both gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria.

Components

This solution is formulated to contain 200 mM L-glutamine, 10,000 units of Penicillin and 10 mg/mL of streptomycin, solubilized in a proprietary buffer.
