General description

Phosphatidylinositol 4-phosphate (PI4P) is present abundantly at the plasma membrane.

Application

16:0-18:1 PI(4)P (1-palmitoyl-2-oleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phospho-(1′-myo-inositol-4′-phosphate) (ammonium salt)) has been used in liposomes for phosphatidylinositol 4-phosphate 5-kinase (PIP5K) sedimentation assays.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Phosphatidylinositol 4-phosphate (PI(4)P) plays a key role in modulating mitochondrial fission. It participates in protein targeting to the domains of plasma membrane by acting as a spatial cue or signpost.

Phosphoinositide lipids provide spatial landmarks during polarized cell growth and migration. Yet how phosphoinositide gradients are oriented in response to extracellular cues and environmental conditions is not well understood. Here, we elucidate an unexpected mode of phosphatidylinositol 4-phosphate (PI4P) regulation

Mitochondrial plasticity is a key regulator of cell fate decisions. Mitochondrial division involves Dynamin-related protein-1 (Drp1) oligomerization, which constricts membranes at endoplasmic reticulum (ER) contact sites. The mechanisms driving the final steps of mitochondrial division are still unclear. Here, we

The plasma membrane (PM) is composed of a complex lipid mixture that forms heterogeneous membrane environments. Yet, how small-scale lipid organization controls physiological events at the PM remains largely unknown. Here, we show that ORP-related Osh lipid exchange proteins are
