General description

White′s Basal Salt Mixture is widely used in plant tissue culture.

Application

White′s Basal Salt Mixture has been used:
  • as a medium for the precultured spores of Prothalli of Adiantum capillus for the generation of protonemata
  • to promote germination and cotton cotyledon unfolding
  • as a solidified medium component for culturing A. capillus and as a component of selection medium for gametophyte selection after particle bombardment

Biolistic transformation of cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) meristems, isolated from mature seed, is detailed in this report. A commercially available, helium-driven biolistic device (Bio-Rad PDS1000/He ) was used to bombard gold particles coated with a marker gene (uidA or "GUS")
