General description

Phosphatidylcholine (PC), an endogenous lipid, found in the secretion of bile is ubiquitously present in the tissues of animals.
The list of Phosphatidylcholine products offered by Avanti is designed to provide compounds having a variety of physical properties. Products available include short chain (C3-C8 are water soluble and hygroscopic), saturated, multi-unsaturated and mixed acid PC′s. All of the products are purified by HPLC, and special precautions are taken to protect the products for oxidization and hydrolysis.

Application

23:0 PC may be used:
  • in unilamellar liposomes preparation to study its interaction with single-strand phosphorothioate oligonucleotides (ONs)
  • as an internal standard to validate the extracted lipids from bovine plasma
  • as an internal standard to quantify fatty acids and cholesterol in H1299 cells

Biochem/physiol Actions

High or low level of phosphatidylcholine (PC) can affect energy metabolism in several organelles.

Although double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) has been shown to bind to zwitterionic lipids, it has been reported that this association is stronger for disordered (L(alpha)) phase lipids than for well-ordered (L(beta)) lipids. In this work, the interaction of single-strand phosphorothioate oligonucleotides
