The indicator paper strip responds to strong oxidants, dissolved in the sample like chlorine, ozone, hydrogen peroxide, etc. Free iodine liberated by these oxidants reacts in turn with starch to form a deep blue dye. The scaling + or ++ does not quantify any value, e.g. in mg/l. The test paper shall be used only for the presence-absence test of oxidants. A quantification of oxidants is not possible with this indicator paper. The paper is intended to detect the presence of weak to moderate oxidizer. This is only a qualitative test and not a quantitative test.
