General description

Human LOXL2 (GenBank Accession No. NM_002318), amino acids 26 – 774 (end) with C-terminal His tag, MW = 85 kDa, expressed in FreeStyle 293-F cells.
Lysyl oxidase like 2 (LOXL2) is part of the LOX family of proteins. It is widely expressed. The gene encoding this protein is localized on human chromosome 8p21.3. It has a conserved carboxy-terminal region with a catalytic function and a divergent amino-terminal region.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Lysyl oxidase like 2 (LOXL2) is an amino oxidase. LOXL2 is involved in various cellular events such as gene transcription, cell migration, adhesion and differentiation. The protein has a role in connecting collagen and/or elastin in the extracellular matrix. It deaminates trimethylated lysine 4 in histone H3, causing transcriptional repression. LOXL2 suppresses some TFIID (transcription factor IID)-associated genes by oxidising methylated TAF10 (TATA-box binding protein associated factor 10). The LOXL2 gene is upregulated in various cancers, such as gastric cancer, breast cancer and squamous cell carcinomas. The gene is associated with cancer cell invasion and lymph node metastasis.
