Application

Biotin-conjugated bovine serum albumin binds selectively to different vascular subsets in lymphoid tissues, as demonstrated by both fluorescent and enzymohistochemical techniques, and thus offers a histochemical probe for identification of select microvascular endothelia in lymphoid tissues.
In spleen, biotin-BSA binds to red pulp sinuses, but not white pulp vessels (including the central arteriole) nor the marginal sinus. In the thymus, prominent binding was restricted to the capillaries of the corticomedullary area.
Biotin labeled bovine albumin has been used as a component in myosin V processivity experiments. It has also been used to provide biotin tags for neutravidin coating and also to suppress nonspecific cell adhesion during preparation of tension gauge tether (TGT) surface.

Questions

1–10 of 11 Questions
  1. How is the degree of substitution determined?

    1 answer
    1. The exact test method is considered proprietary.

      Helpful?

  2. Does this protein contain His, Avi or any other tags?

    1 answer
    1. This product does not contain protein tags such as His, Avi, or any other tags.

      Helpful?

  3. Does the product, cat. no. A8549, can be used for developing serological test like Lateral Flow Assay (LFA)?

    1 answer
    1. This product is intended for research use only and has not been validated for lateral flow assays. It is the responsibility of the user to determine whether this product will be appropriate for the intended application.

      Helpful?

  4. How many biotin moles are there per mole of BSA of Product A8549, Albumin, biotin labeled bovine?

    1 answer
    1. As listed in the "Properties" section of the product detail page, this material will have 8-16 moles of biotin per mole of BSA. The exact result of biotin moles will be listed on the lot specific certificate of analysis.

      Helpful?

  5. What is the molecular weight for biotin labeled bovine(Product A8549, Albumin)?

    1 answer
    1. In order to determine the molecular weight of this product, review the lot specific Certificate of Analysis for the Degree of Substitution (this provides the moles of biotin per mol of albumin). For lot SLCM9516, the Degree of Substitution is 8 mols biotin per mol of albumin. 8 x 244.31 (MW of biotin) + 66,430 (MW of BSA) = 68,384

      Helpful?

  6. What is the linker between the BSA and the biotin for Product A8549, Albumin, biotin labeled bovine?

    1 answer
    1. There is no linker or "spacer". The link between the BSA and the biotin is an amide bond connecting an amino group on the BSA to the carboxy group on the biotin.
