Analysis Note

Two issues must be overcome for the analysis of sulfur compounds in fuels. 1) Detection of these compounds in a hydrocarbon sample matrix, and 2) adsorption of these compounds by the column. Sulfur specific detectors, such as a flame photometric detector (FPD), can be used to overcome the first challenge. A low phase ratio column, such as the SPB-1 SULFUR, can be used to overcome the second challenge. This slide shows the analysis of a gasoline sample, in which the column effluent was split to two detectors. The top chromatogram shows the FID response, and the bottom chromatogram shows the FPD response.
