General description

ELOVL (Elongation of very long chain fatty acids) fatty acid elongase 7 is expressed in most tissues except heart and skeletal muscles. In human chromosome, the gene ELOVL7 is localised on 5q12.1.

Immunogen

ELOVL7 antibody was raised against a 15 amino acid peptide near the amino terminus of human ELOVL7.

Biochem/physiol Actions

ELOVL7 catalyses the elongation of long chain fatty acids, preferably saturated long chain fatty acids. Elovl7 exhibited activity towards C16-C20 acyl coenzyme A with maximum affinity towards carbon length of C18. Elovl7 expression is regulated by sterol regulatory element-binding protein 1 (SREBP1) and also by other lipogenic enzymes. The expression levels of Elovl7 is higher in prostate cancer leading to its progression.
