Application

Indigo carmine has been used in agarose plates to study behavioral feeding assays in Drosophila larvae.[1] It has also been used for macroscopic assessment of intestinal adenomatous polyps isolated from mice.[2]

Biochem/physiol Actions

Indigo carmine is a contrast dye which helps in highlighting mucosal changes. It accumulates in crevices, cysts and foveolae and stains the tissue blue. The abnormal tissue remains translucent pink.[3]
