General description

Monodisperse polystyrene based micro particles (size: 0.5 μm) are a particle size standard, designed to profile the particle size distribution (PSD) of test samples.

Application

Used to calibrate, qualify and monitor the performance of particle size analyzers, surface scanning instruments and particle counters.
Monodisperse polystyrene latex particles are also used to find the PSD of colloidal dispersions.

Features and Benefits

  • suitable for routine instrument calibration checks, testing and corrections
  • available in 5 mL and 10 mL pack sizes as neat samples

Analysis Note

For every lot exact values of particle size and standard deviation are determined with an accuracy of 0.001 μm. The size determination of these particles follows procedures described by National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST, USA) respectively by the Community Bureau of Reference (BCR), esp.:
  • Transmission electron microscopy (TEM)
  • Scanning electron microscope
  • Light microscopy
  • Coulter counter with MDF-system
Calibration of equipment is carried out with NIST-respectively BCR-particle size standards.

Questions

1–2 of 2 Questions
  1. Where can I see how many particles there are per milliliter of the suspension?

    1 answer
    1. The suspension contains approximately 2.6 × 10¹¹ particles per milliliter, which corresponds to 260 billion particles per milliliter.
This value is approximate and may vary slightly depending on handling and measurement conditions.

      Helpful?

  2. Are there any surfactants that are used for product 95585?

    1 answer
    1. The calibration product 95585 is provided for calibration purposes as 2% w/v aqueous suspensions with a solids content of 20 mg per ml. For stability reasons, the suspension contains 0.07 wt.-% anionic surfactant (SDS) along with 0.007 wt.-% of a preserving agent (NaN3).
