General description
Glycophorin A, CD235a, is a single-pass membrane sialoglycoprotein and carrier of the blood group specificities M and N. The gene is located on chromosome 4q28-q31 and share sequence homology with genes encoding glycophorin B and glycophorin E (van der Schoot, 2002). Glycophorin A is expressed by erythroid cells beginning on morphologically recognizable erythroid precursors, just after the CFU-E stage, to the mature erythrocyte. Once glycophorin A is maximally expressed, the amount in each erythroid cell remains constant and does not appear to change during further maturation (Loken, 1987).
Specificity
Antibody recognizes Human CD235a antigen.
Immunogen
Membrane extracts of hairy cell leukemia prepared from human spleen
Application
Detect CD235a using this Milli-Mark Anti-CD235a-FITC Antibody, clone JC159 validated for use in FC.

For almost two decades, clinicians have overlooked the diagnostic potential of CD34neg hematopoietic stem cells because of their limited homing capacity relative to CD34posHSCs when injected intravenously. This has contributed to the lack of appeal of using umbilical cord blood
