The SMCxPRO® Immunoassay Platform for Ultrasensitive Biomarker Detection

When the success of your research requires identifying and quantifying low-level proteins, you need technology you can rely on to detect your target. The compact SMCxPRO® immunoassay platform provides fast ultrasensitive biomarker detection.

What is the SMCxPRO® Platform?

The SMCxPRO® platform is an ultrasensitive immunoassay platform that can detect low levels of established disease biomarkers, capturing extremely small concentrations. As a result, this platform can monitor small changes in protein concentrations to accurately measure biomarkers associated with disease progression for research purposes. In addition, the small sample volume requirements allow researchers to conserve valuable samples, reduce program costs, and improve productivity. This affordable, fast, and compact benchtop instrument allows research labs, including ones on a budget, to access reliable protein detection and expand the quest for drug discovery research and development.

Using Single Molecule Counting (SMC®) technology, this protein detection platform offers the ability to take the analysis of proteins down to femtogram/mL levels. This improved level of sensitivity allows for previously undetectable proteins to now be quantified, including endogenous levels.

  • High sensitivity (femtogram/mL) quantification
  • Minimal bench space: 14” W x 16” H x 17.5” D
  • Affordable
  • Bead-based kits and plate-based kits
  • Custom assay and sample testing services
  • Software is 21CFR part II compliant and LIMS compatible

SMCxPRO® Platform vs. Erenna® Platform Comparison

SMC® technology has utilized the Erenna® instrument for years as a proven, reliable instrument for high sensitivity protein measurement. The SMCxPRO® platform expands the portfolio to provide a compact, affordable option to achieve the same high sensitivity. Figure 2 shows a comparison of the SMCxPRO® platform vs the Erenna® platform.

Figure 2.Individual and pooled plasma samples from four SMC® immunoassay kits were analyzed on both the SMCxPRO® and Erenna® platforms. For all four analytes measured, the mean interpolated concentration of each sample (R2) was nearly identical between the two instruments. Human cTnI (Cat. No. 03-0092-00), R2=0.9944, Human IL-6 (Cat. No. 03-0089-01), R2=0.9972, Human IL-4 (Cat. No. 03-0052-00), R2=0.9976, and Human IL-23 (Cat. No. 03-0112-00) R2=0.9413.

Take Multiplexing Results Even Further

Multiplexing allows you to screen multiple markers quickly and easily. The SMCxPRO® platform allows researchers to take this even further, to the femtogram/mL level, with a seamless transition from platform to platform.

MILLIPLEX® multiplex assays and the SMCxPRO® platform cover the complete quantitative measurement of diseased states for research purposes. This improved sensitivity range allows for early recognition of marker changes which will ultimately improve research for diagnostic and patient care.

Figure 3 and Figure 4 describe an example of combining multiplexing and high sensitivity immunoassays in cardiac research.

This allows for the exploration of patient samples both pre- and post-myocardial infarction. Diagnostic cut-off range was determined from literature review.1

Multiplex and High Sensitivity Analysis of IL-6

Figure 4.Both the MILLIPLEX® Human IL-6 (Cat. No. HSTCMAG-28SK) and the SMCxPRO® Human IL-6 (Cat. No. 03-0089-01) assays provide detection and resolution of the cytokine within a study population. The combination of platforms allows for the detection and exploration of the biomarker on a multiplex platform, with detailed detection and resolution of the underlying changes in the marker by an ultrasensitive technology. Data was generated using the Erenna® platform. Reference range was determined from literature review.2 * As defined in a population of: Normal N =125 40-65 years old and Heart Failure N = 32 age matched.

One-Year Warranty

The standard one-year warranty with the purchase of the SMCxPRO® instrument covers the replacement of any components that may be damaged through normal use of the instrument within the first year of installation. Qualified field service engineers and/or application specialists provide instrument installation upon purchase and either a field service engineer or application specialist will demonstrate how to maintain the instrument as part of customer training.

Contracts for service assume continuous warranty or service contract coverage. If coverage lapses and is later re-established, the instrument must first be restored to factory specifications and may result in additional costs.
