General description

Native coagulation factor α-XIIa from human plasma prepared from homogeneous Factor XII using dextran sulfate. Dextran sulfate is removed after activation. α-XIIa is a serine protease responsible for activation of Factor XI to Factor XIa. Factor XIIa and prekallikrein are thought to be involved in a reciprocal activation mechanism whereby Factor XIIa activates prekallikrein to kallikrein, which in turn converts Factor XII to Factor XIIa.
