General description

Cyclin T2 (CCNT2) is the regulatory subunit of the cyclin-dependent kinase pair (CDK9/cyclin T) complex and also called positive transcription elongation factor B (P-TEFB).

Application

The Human Protein Atlas project can be subdivided into three efforts: Human Tissue Atlas, Cancer Atlas, and Human Cell Atlas. Biochem/physiol Actions

Cyclin T2 (CCNT2) is required as a cofactor and an activator. It has various roles in different cellular pathways such as transcriptional elongation, differentiation and apoptosis. It facilitates the transition from abortive to production elongation by phosphorylating the CTD (carboxy-terminal domain) of the large subunit of RNA polymerase II (RNAP II). Cdk9/cycT2 binds to pRb, involving residues 129-195 of cdk9, the region of cycT2 comprising amino acids 1-642 and the C-terminal region of the retinoblastoma protein (835-928). Cdk9 complexes phosphorylate the pRb region spanning amino acids 793-834.
