Biotin is a water-soluble vitamin B, which is involved in the synthesis of fatty acids and in gluconeogenesis. It is found in plants and animals. Biotin deficiency causes retardation in growth, alopecia and neurological impairment in humans and animals.

Application

Biotin may be used as an EP reference standard for the determination of the analyte in pharmaceutical formulations by liquid chromatography.
