General description

Sodium fluoride (NaF) is a metallic halide. It has been reported as dental caries preventive agent. It is the most widely employed chemical preservative for the preservation of glucose in blood. It has been reported to stabilize the hepatic microsomal glucose-6-P phosphohydrolase enzyme.

Application

Sodium fluoride may be employed as a fluorination agent in the synthesis of aromatic and aliphatic fluorides. It may be used to prepare the lysis buffer.
Sodium fluoride may be used as a fluorinating agent for chlorine-containing compounds via halogen-exchange reaction.
Starting material for solid state preparation of Na3MnF6 for further high pressure structural determination studies.
