Applications
Stericup® and Steritop® systems are designed to reduce foaming and protein denaturation while maximizing flow and can be used for sterile vacuum filtration of aqueous solutions such as tissue culture media and biological fluids.
- Tissue culture media +/- additives
- Buffers
- Biological solutions
Fit-for-Application Membrane Chemistries
Sterile filtration performance depends on the quality of the filter membrane. Stericup® and Steritop® filters are available with a selection of Millipore® membranes that set the industry standard for their application-specific properties.
- Fastest flow, low protein-binding of aqueous solutions with Millipore Express® and Express® Plus polyethersulfone (PES) membrane devices
- Broad chemical compatibility and very low protein binding polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF)
Membrane Pore Size
Pore size relates to the filter’s ability to filter out particles of a certain size. Stericup® and Steritop® filters can be selected by pore size to meet your specific needs.
- 0.1 µm: mycoplasma elimination
- 0.22 µm: sterilizing filtration
- 0.45 µm: clarification
Process and Storage Volumes
Process volumes are based on funnel capacity for Steritop® filter units or a combination of funnel capacity and matching receiver bottle capacity for Stericup® filter units. Stericup® and Steritop® filtration devices can be used to process and store volumes ranging from 150 mL to 1 L.
- 150 mL
- 250 mL
- 500 mL
- 1000 mL

Stericup® Quick Release Filtration Systems Design
- The Quick Release filter funnel disconnects from the receiver bottle with just a quarter turn—reducing the likelihood of spillage and making it easier to manipulate on the bench or under the hood.
- Bold product identification on the Steritop® filter funnel plainly displays membrane characteristics, including composition and pore size, for rapid, application-appropriate product selection.
- Click seal cap is flanged and modified to enable a firm grip in wet or dry conditions—and a tactile stop confirms secure closure. Worry less about the possibility of spilling or contamination of sterilized contents.
- Frosted, ample writing surface on the receiver bottle and lighter cap color facilitate clear labelling to improve legibility and reduce unreadable smears.
Additional Convenience
- Click seal cap rests on the side to avoid risk of contamination.
- Receiver bottles are stackable to save storage space.

Stericup® and Steritop® E Filters Use Less Plastic and Packaging
Our engineers found a device design that retains exceptional Stericup® filtration while providing your lab a way to dramatically reduce the use of disposable plastic and packaging materials. Whether your goal is a green lab certification, or just a smaller footprint, both the Stericup® E and Steritop® E filters are designed to ensure trouble-free cell culture, while diminishing environmental impact in multiple ways.
Stericup® E devices flip sterile filtration on its head—literally. We’ve eliminated the need for the plastic filler funnel by creating a way to attach standard media bottles or glassware directly onto the filter unit. Simply invert the Stericup® E filter/receiver bottle assembly and thread onto the bottle containing media or buffer. Flip the assembly over, attach to vacuum, and watch sterile filtration happen. The Steritop® E device saves even more plastic by allowing you to attach the filter to your own compatible, reusable labware receiver bottle before threading onto the bottle containing unfiltered media.
Stericup® E and Steritop® E filters provide significant waste reduction to help labs achieve sustainability goals:
- Up to 26% reduction in plastic waste for Stericup® E devices, and up to 48% plastic reduction for Steritop® E filters when compared with traditional plastic filters
- Because devices are smaller, packaging is reduced by up to 48% for Stericup® E filters, and by 69% for Steritop® E devices
