General description

A Wnt-5a-derived, N-terminally butyloxycarbonyl- (Boc) protected, hexa-peptide that effectively antagonizes Wnt-5a-mediated cellular activities in A2058 and HTB63 melanoma cultures, including migration, invasion, calcium response, and MARCKS phosphorylation. Replacing the N-terminal Boc with a formyl modification results in a peptide termed Foxy5 that mimics, instead of antagonizes, Wnt-5a biological activity in a Frizzled-5- (Fzd-5/Frz-5) dependent manner. The peptide sequence is conserved in multiple species, including human, mouse, and rat, and Box5 is expected to exert its effect via direct FZD5 binding as is the case with Foxy5.

Many adult lung diseases involve dysregulated lung repair. Deciphering the molecular and cellular mechanisms that govern intrinsic lung repair is essential to develop new treatments to repair/regenerate the lungs. Aberrant Wnt signalling is associated with lung diseases including emphysema, idiopathic
