Gene Information

General description

Nortriptyline is a second generation tricyclic antidepressant (TCA) marketed under trade names such as Sensoval, Aventyl®, and Pamelor® for treatment of major depression. Nortriptyline is also an active metabolite of the TCA amitriptyline. This certified Snap-N-Spike® solution is suitable for LC/MS or GC/MS applications in clinical toxicology, forensic analysis, urine drug testing, or medication monitoring applications.

Application

  • Neuropharmacological research: A study explored the effectiveness of antidepressants in combination with psychotherapy, including nortriptyline hydrochloride. This research emphasizes its role in treating mental health disorders, showcasing the compound′s importance in neuropharmacological research and its potential for further exploration in neurotransmitter studies (Alemi et al., 2024).

  • Peripheral neuropathy treatment: Nortriptyline hydrochloride was evaluated for its efficacy in managing diabetic peripheral neuropathy, highlighting its therapeutic benefits beyond traditional antidepressant applications. This study underlines its utility in biochemical assays aimed at understanding its mechanism of action on neurophysiological pathways (Bragg et al., 2024).

Monoaminergic imbalances play a role in the pathogenesis of depression and most common antidepressant drugs act on monoamine neurotransmitters.
