General description

Lysophosphatidylinositol (LPI), produced by phospholipase A2 is a bioactive lipid.

Application

13:0 Lyso PI (1-tridecanoyl-2-hydroxy-sn-glycero-3-phospho-(1′-myo-inositol) may be used as a nonendogenous phospholipid (PL) standard for the quantitative analysis of PLs. It may also be used as a standard for tandem mass spectrometry analysis of lipid species in human plasma.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Increased circulating levels of L-alpha-lysophosphatidylinositol (LPI) are associated with cancer and LPI is a potent ligand for the G-protein-coupled receptor GPR55.
Lysophosphatidylinositol (LPI) is expected to play a vital role in various diseases. Ca2+ channels at the plasma membrane and mitochondrial membrane are controlled by LPI. It can also stimulate various signaling pathways to control several cellular processes. LPI can block the migration of cells.
