General description

Hexadecylpyridinium bromide (HDPB) is a cationic surfactant with quaternary nitrogen located in the aromatic heterocyclic ring of the headgroup and a hydrocarbon tail consisting of 16 carbons. It has application in the polymerization reaction as well as in the extraction and preconcentration of ionic species.

Application

Hexadecylpyridinium bromide can be used as a cationic surfactant to:
  • Prepare a polyfluorate salt.
  • Inhibit the corrosion of mild steel in acidic media.
