Questions

1–2 of 2 Questions
  1. I plan to use heparin in Neurobasal medium for culturing GBM cells. Literature suggests 2 µg/mL, but I need the units/mL for the final concentration. Could you provide guidance on the correct units/mL for heparin?

    1 answer
    1. Product 375095 is assayed for activity on a batch to batch basis with a specification for this product ≥160 USP units/mg dry weight. The reported activity value for this product will be found on the certificate of analysis for a given lot. It is unclear as to what activity corresponds to the provided concentration that was indicated and only the authors of the literature citation would know. Certain research articles do provide information on the activity of heparin to supplement neurobasal medium (NBM). Please see the article below which states NBM can be supplemented with 100 U/uL heparin. This decision will be at the discretion of the end user.

  2. What should be the storage temperature after 100 000 units of heparin salt is dissolved in 100 mL of PBS 1x

    1 answer
    1. Sterile filtered heparin solutions remain stable for up to 2 years when stored at 2-8 °C, provided th. Autoclaving and freezing heparin solutions are not recommended. Please see the link below to review additional information available in the datasheet for similar product H3393:
