Application

  • Eosin B has been used for the histological analysis of anal sphincter sections obtained from rats.
  • It has been used along with Mayer′s hematoxylin for the staining of triangularis sterni muscle sections.
  • It has been used along with hematoxylin for the staining of different tissue sections obtained from mouse.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Eosin B is a xanthene dye and is also referred to as eosin bluish or erythrosin B. It is used in the Harris stain for Negri bodies. Eosin B is also used in Mayer′s Hemalum as a counterstain for collagen. Eosin B-Azure A are used together for the staining of cell granules, nuclei and microorganisms. It can also be used for protein estimation. The protein - eosin B complex absorbs at wavelength range of 536–544nm and the change in blue shift helps in determining the protein concentration.

Suitability

Counterstain for collagen, following Mayer′s Hemalum. Used with Azure A as a tissue stain for cell granules, nuclei, and microorganisms. For differential staining of cells of the anterior pituitary.
