DOIは強力かつ選択的な5-HT2セロトニンレセプタ-のアゴニストであり、血液脳関門を通過し、ド-パミンのタ-ンオ-バ-を亢進します。DOI投与はニコチン誘導性運動や神経化学的感作への反作用がありますが、ニコチン誘導性の行動脱抑制には影響しませんでした。DOIへの応答から、これらのレセプタ-は皮質に多く海馬および小脳には少ないと証明されました。
