Dr. Ezio Rizzardo, Chief Scientist at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO), presents an overview of Reversible Addition Fragmentation Chain Transfer (RAFT) Polymerization and highlighting recent advances, such as switchable RAFT agents. In the lecture, Dr. Rizzardo explains the different categories of RAFT agents and their compatibilities with different monomers. These RAFT agents enable scientists to synthesize a wide range of polymers with low polydispersity, tailored end-group functionality, new block copolymer compositions, and a variety of other complex architectures. In addition, a new class of switchable RAFT agents are described that allow for the polymerization of different classes of monomers via protonation/deprotonation that were previously inaccessible by other polymerization agents.
